Kilimanjaro Routes
Kilimanjaro’s quieter, more scenic western approach — deep rainforest, the wide Shira Plateau, and some of the strongest summit success rates on the mountain. Choose from twelve ways to climb it below.
About the route
Lemosho approaches Kilimanjaro from the west, starting deeper in untouched rainforest and seeing noticeably less foot traffic than Machame or Marangu in the early days. It crosses the wide, dramatic Shira Plateau before joining the southern circuit near Barranco, giving climbers days of quiet, scenic trekking before the crowds converge.
Its longer approach means more time for “climb high, sleep low” acclimatization, which is why Lemosho consistently posts some of the highest summit success rates of any route on the mountain. No technical climbing is required — it’s the scenery and the solitude that set it apart.
Below are all twelve ways we run the Lemosho Route, from budget-conscious group climbs to full luxury, plus combos that add a Serengeti safari or a Zanzibar beach stay.
