Kilimanjaro Routes
Kilimanjaro’s original path to the summit — the only route with mountain-hut accommodation instead of tents, and the most established trail on the mountain. Choose from twelve ways to climb it below.
About the route
Marangu — nicknamed the “Coca-Cola Route” for how established it is — is Kilimanjaro’s original trekking path and the only route on the mountain where you sleep in mountain huts rather than tents. No camp setup, no tent-pitching after a long day; just a bunk and a mattress waiting at each stop.
Its gentler daily gradients and hut stays make it a popular choice for climbers who want a more comfortable trek, though the ascent and descent share the same path rather than looping through fresh terrain. We build in a dedicated acclimatization day at Horombo Hut on our 6-day itinerary specifically to compensate for that.
Below are all twelve ways we run the Marangu Route, from a faster 5-day climb to full VIP service, plus combos that add a Serengeti safari or a Zanzibar beach stay.
