African Safaris Hub Kilimanjaro
Kilimanjaro · Lemosho Route · Women’s Group
Kilimanjaro’s most scenic route, climbed alongside a fixed departure of women on the same journey — with the full support and safety standard of every African Safaris Hub climb.
Overview
The Lemosho Route approaches Kilimanjaro from the west, tracing a longer, quieter path through untouched rainforest and across the wide-open Shira Plateau before joining the summit trail. It’s widely regarded as the most beautiful way up the mountain, and its extra distance gives your body more time to acclimatize along the way.
This departure is reserved for a fixed group of women climbing together — sharing the same trail, the same camps, and the same summit push. You’ll still have the same senior local guides, well-cared-for crew, emergency oxygen, and twice-daily health checks as every African Safaris Hub climb; what changes is who you’re sharing the mountain with.
Seven days is enough time to respect the altitude without rushing it — you’ll cross five climate zones, summit at sunrise, and descend as a group that’s been through it together.

Trip highlights
Day by day
After registration at Londorossi Gate and a scenic drive to the trailhead, you begin climbing through dense montane rainforest. A gentle first day brings the group to Mti Mkubwa (“Big Tree”) Camp for your first night together on the mountain.
The rainforest opens into moorland as you climb onto the vast Shira Plateau, one of the largest volcanic calderas in the world. A longer day, but a spectacular one, with Kibo’s summit visible ahead for the first time.
A key acclimatization day: the group climbs high to Lava Tower (4,630m) for lunch, then descends to sleep lower at Barranco Camp. “Climb high, sleep low” gives your body time to adjust ahead of the summit push.
The day starts with the iconic Barranco Wall — a fun, non-technical scramble that’s a highlight for most climbers, with sweeping views back over the route you’ve covered. A shorter day to Karanga Camp follows.
A steady climb to Barafu, the summit base camp. The group arrives early, eats well, and rests through the afternoon and evening — because tonight, you climb.
You set off around midnight for the long climb to Stella Point and on to Uhuru Peak — the Roof of Africa — for sunrise as a group. After summit photos, you descend all the way to Mweka Camp for a well-earned rest.
A final descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate, where the group receives their summit certificates together. We then transfer you back to your hotel for a hot shower and a proper celebration.

Questions
No. Lemosho is a non-technical trek — there’s no rope work or climbing skill required. The main challenge is the altitude, which our 7-day itinerary is designed to manage.
You’ll climb on a fixed departure alongside other women, sharing camps, meals, and the summit push as one group. The guiding, crew, safety protocols, and equipment are the same standard as every African Safaris Hub climb.
Lemosho approaches from the west and takes a longer, more scenic path across the Shira Plateau before joining the main summit trail. That extra distance gives your body more time to acclimatize, and the varied scenery is widely considered the best on the mountain.
Summit night is the coldest part of the climb, often well below freezing with wind chill. We’ll give you a full packing list, and warm gear is available to rent if you need it.
Absolutely. Many climbers pair the climb with a Serengeti safari or a Zanzibar beach stay, all arranged by our team as one seamless trip.
