African Safaris Hub Kilimanjaro
Kilimanjaro · Machame Route + Serengeti
Summit the Roof of Africa, then swap your hiking boots for a safari vehicle and witness the Serengeti’s wildlife up close — one seamless trip, one trusted team, start to finish.
Overview
This package pairs our classic 7-day Machame Route climb with a 3-day Serengeti safari, connected by a short flight and a rest day in Arusha. You’ll spend the first week working your way through five climate zones to stand on Uhuru Peak, then trade the cold for the warmth of the savannah and the Great Migration’s endless herds.
It’s one itinerary, arranged by one team — no juggling separate agents or awkward gaps between hand-offs. Your mountain guides and your safari guides both work for us, so every transfer, hotel, and permit is already sorted before you land.
The climb itself keeps our full acclimatization-first approach: senior local guides, emergency oxygen, and daily health checks, exactly as on our standalone Machame climb.

Trip highlights
Day by day
After your morning briefing and transfer to Machame Gate, you begin climbing through dense, lush rainforest. A steady first day brings you to Machame Camp for your first night under canvas.
The forest gives way to open moorland, with the summit coming into view as you cross onto the Shira Plateau.
A key acclimatization day: climb high to Lava Tower (4,630m) for lunch, then descend to sleep lower at Barranco Camp.
The day starts with the iconic Barranco Wall — a fun, non-technical scramble with sweeping views. A short day to Karanga Camp, this extra night is the acclimatization advantage of the 7-day route.
A steady climb to Barafu, the summit base camp. You arrive early, eat well, and rest through the afternoon — because tonight, you climb.
You set off around midnight for Stella Point and on to Uhuru Peak — the Roof of Africa — for sunrise. After your summit photos, you descend to Mweka Camp for a well-earned rest.
A final descent to Mweka Gate for your summit certificate, then a transfer back to your hotel in Moshi for a hot shower, a proper bed, and a celebration dinner.
A full rest day to recover from the climb before transferring to Arusha, the gateway to the northern safari circuit, ready for tomorrow’s flight into the Serengeti.
A short scenic flight brings you into the Serengeti. Check in to your safari lodge, then head straight out for your first game drive as the plains come alive in the late afternoon light.
A full day exploring the Serengeti’s vast plains with your dedicated safari guide, tracking lion, elephant, giraffe, and — depending on the season — the Great Migration itself.
One final sunrise game drive before flying back to Arusha or Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) for your onward or international flight home.
The details
Good to know
No technical skills needed for the climb, but good general fitness helps. The safari days that follow are relaxed by comparison.
January to March or June to October suit both the climb and prime Serengeti wildlife viewing; the Great Migration timing varies by season.
Twice-daily health checks, emergency oxygen, and the extra acclimatization day are built into the climb as standard.
Bring your own climbing kit or rent quality equipment from us; light, neutral-coloured clothing is best for the safari days.
One trip, two of Tanzania’s greatest experiences.
Questions
The rest day and transfer to Arusha before you fly to the Serengeti give your body time to recover. Safari days themselves are far less physically demanding than the climb — mostly seated game drives.
You’ll have a dedicated mountain guide team for the climb and a separate safari guide for the Serengeti, but both are arranged by our single team, so nothing falls between the cracks.
